About the Mommy Makeover

During a mommy makeover, we mainly target the areas of the breasts and the abdomen. These areas can be particularly affected by pregnancy, but similar changes are also seen after weight gain and weight loss, the natural aging process, or other factors.

While focusing on the key areas of the breasts and abdomen, the mommy makeover has no set components; the surgery is tailored to fit the individual patient’s unique needs. Usually, a mommy makeover includes a combination of the following:

  • Breast Augmentation
  • Breast Lift
  • Breast Reduction
  • Abdominoplasty / Tummy Tuck
  • Liposuction

Patients may also want to explore the option of a Brazilian Butt Lift, labiaplasty, or arm lift–all of which we offer at Palisade Plastic Surgery.

Breast Augmentation

A breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that increases the size and improves the shape of the breasts. After pregnancy and the breastfeeding that comes with it, the breasts can end up looking deflated. Using either silicone or saline implants, we are able to enhance the shape and firmness of the breasts. Breast augmentations can also be done using a fat transfer, which is when we take fat from elsewhere in the body using liposuction. We then take this fat and insert it into the breasts to increase their volume. (1)

Breast Lift

A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, is a procedure during which we raise the breasts on the chest by carefully removing excess skin. (2) After breastfeeding, breast ptosis may occur, which is the sagging of the breasts. The nipple can also be moved to a preferable location during a breast lift. By contouring the breast in this way, we can provide patients with breasts that have a more youthful appearance and feel. (2)

Breast Reduction

Breast reduction is a procedure that removes fat and tightens the skin of the breasts in order to decrease their size. (3) This procedure can help better the lives of patients who experience back and neck pain from having large breasts. Women with this issue also report difficulties finding clothes and bras that fit well. (3) Some women experience enlarged or heavy breasts after pregnancy, and a breast reduction can help to alleviate the difficulties this can cause. Nipple position can also be corrected at this time. (3)

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, is an abdominal contouring surgery that removes excess skin and some fat from the midsection. (4) A pregnancy stretches and pulls at the skin of the midsection, and the loose skin that is left behind can feel unflattering and difficult to exercise away. (4) Dr. Rosenberg or Dr. Pathak can also tighten the muscles of the abdomen during a tummy tuck, which often separate as a result of pregnancy or significant weight gain. At Palisade Plastic Surgery, we offer the option of a mini tummy tuck or a full tummy tuck.

Liposuction

Some women experience stubborn fat deposits that linger after pregnancy, regardless of dieting attempts or exercise regimens. Liposuction is a popular, minimally invasive treatment that patients choose to address this occurrence. During liposuction, Dr. Rosenberg or Dr. Pathak will remove sections of fat using small suction tubes called cannula. (5) By carefully removing fat from areas of the body, liposuction is a technique that brings back the curves a patient might have had before pregnancy. While liposuction improves the appearance of bodily curves, it does not act as a method of weight loss. Patients should not expect to lose significant amounts of weight from liposuction.

Benefits of a Mommy Makeover

Mommy makeovers can have many different benefits for patients, including:

  • An all-in-one body contouring procedure
  • Enhanced self-confidence
  • Enhanced comfort
  • Better-fitting clothes
  • Customizable procedure
  • Decreased recovery time
  • Reduced overall costs
  • Long-lasting results

Candidates

The mommy makeover is highly customizable to a patient’s needs. Because of this, it is likely that you are eligible for some version of a mommy makeover, especially if you have already tried to achieve your goals with a healthy diet and exercise. You might make an ideal mommy makeover candidate if you do not intend to give birth again, as experiencing another pregnancy could impact the results of your mommy makeover in an unfavorable way. Being a non-smoker and in overall good health could also increase your eligibility for a mommy makeover. A mommy makeover is not a way to lose weight; you should be at or near your ideal weight at the time of your procedure.

Personal Consultation

During your consultation at Palisade Plastic Surgery, Dr. Rosenberg or Dr. Pathak will meet with you personally to go over the mommy makeover process. For your consultation, you should gather any questions you may have about the procedures beforehand so that you can bring them up during the meeting. Our team will also document your medical history and take note of any medications you are taking. If there are any health-related factors standing in the way of a mommy makeover procedure, we will do our best to address these issues at this time as well.

To schedule your personal consultation today, please call our New Jersey office at (201) 585-2388.

Preparation

Our team at Palisade Plastic Surgery will take steps to help make sure that you are well-prepared for your mommy makeover. Because a mommy makeover addresses different parts of the body, we suggest that you prepare to take at least 2 weeks off of work so that you have adequate time to rest. In addition to preparing to take time off, you should stock your home so that you do not have to worry about trips to the grocery store while you are recovering from your mommy makeover. Dr. Rosenberg or Dr. Pathak will also give you advice on the medications and supplements you should be stopping before your procedure.

Recovery

The amount of procedures you choose to have as part of your mommy makeover will determine your recovery time. Whether you have more procedures or less, a mommy makeover is convenient because it only requires one recovery period–all procedures will take place at the same appointment. The average recovery time for a mommy makeover is about 4-6 weeks, but this time frame can vary.

Results

Your mommy makeover results will be mostly permanent. However, they will be best preserved if you continue to exercise and practice a healthy lifestyle. What this means for each person can be very different, as every patient has a unique body with unique health needs. Despite the permanence of the procedures, the mommy makeover results can be affected by significant weight gain or the occurrence of another pregnancy.

FAQ

“Revive your radiance, embrace the journey of motherhood!”

Which procedures are typically included in a mommy makeover?

The specific procedures included in a mommy makeover can vary depending on the individual’s concerns and goals. Common procedures that are often part of a mommy makeover include breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, tummy tuck, and liposuction. In any case, the combination of procedures will be tailored to each patient’s needs.

Who is a good candidate for a mommy makeover?

Good candidates for a mommy makeover are women who have completed their pregnancies and breastfeeding, have fully recovered from childbirth or past surgeries, and have a stable body weight. It is important for candidates to have realistic expectations; a mommy makeover is not a weight-loss solution, but rather a way to address specific aesthetic concerns.

How long after childbirth should I wait to have a mommy makeover?

It is generally recommended to wait at least 6 months after childbirth to allow your body to fully recover before considering a mommy makeover. This waiting period ensures that your hormones have stabilized, and you have given yourself time to focus on postpartum recovery and adjusting to motherhood.

Can I have more children after a mommy makeover?

While it is possible to have more children after a mommy makeover, it is generally recommended to complete your family before undergoing the procedure. Pregnancy and childbirth can impact or undo the results achieved through the mommy makeover.
