Every patient presents with inherent challenges, but in those seeking improvement of deformities caused by a previous operation on the nose the difficulty is greater. Revision rhinoplasty entails re-operating on a nose to repair a poor outcome. It is a procedure largely considered amongst the most challenging in plastic surgery.

Stemming from unpredictable scarring or tissue contracture and often a paucity of cartilage cartilaginous there is increased difficulty and complexity to providing aesthetic and functional improvement. The complexity of the procedure varies greatly, and is best assessed with a proper in-person analysis. From minor irregularities for which non-surgical options such as the use of fillers (liquid rhinoplasty) may suffice to complete. To complete reconstruction of the nose, requiring adequate cartilage support which in many cases is no longer available from the septum leaving only the options of harvesting rib cartilage or using cadaveric rib cartilage.

A failed rhinoplasty with obvious deformity is one of the more distressing experiences a plastic surgery patient can endure, greatly affecting self-esteem. What is revision rhinoplasty?

Revision rhinoplasty, also known as secondary rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to correct or improve the results of a previous rhinoplasty. It addresses concerns such as persistent cosmetic issues, functional problems, or dissatisfaction with the initial outcome of a previous nose surgery.

How is ethnic rhinoplasty different from traditional rhinoplasty?

Revision rhinoplasty is a more intricate and complex procedure compared to traditional rhinoplasty. It requires careful assessment, planning, and execution to address the specific concerns and challenges associated with previous nasal surgeries. Consulting with an experienced and qualified plastic surgeon is crucial to discuss your unique situation and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
